Firstup – What’s in a name?

SocialChorus and Dynamic Signal have merged and rebranded as Firstup. This is no small deal given that the two platforms already serve some 15 million employees in 40% of the Fortune 100: companies such as Amazon, ABInBev, Ford and Pfizer.

It transpires that Firstup was a name that SocialChorus had been playing around with a couple of years before the new merger. We asked Nicole Alvino, Co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer, what was the thinking behind the new name.

“We make communication solutions that build authentic engagement and create two-way conversation between employees and companies. So we have two main types of user, the employee, particularly the frontline workers who receive the messages, and then the leadership and comms professionals who make and send them. Firstup works for both target markets.

“For employees it’s about putting them first and lifting them up with a user experience designed around their needs. Our orchestration engine connects every worker, everywhere, on any device with personalised information that helps them do their best work.

“For communicators and senior execs it’s about cutting through the noise: Firstup delivers the important news first up when staff log on. They may be checking their payslip or their shift rota, and there is the message that is most important for their region or function. It’s the first up thing they see each morning.”
